Beautiful beaches, the Pacific Ocean coastline and one of the wealthiest cities in America are all part of Oxnard, where residents enjoy a good quality of life and are only a half-hour from the big-city offerings of Los Angeles. Famous people who once lived in Oxnard include Charlie Chaplin, Cesar Chavez, Clark Gable, Pat Sajak, Rudolph Valentino and Sonny & Cher, are here are reasons why people live there today:

Bright Forecast

Oxnard enjoys what is known as a Mediterranean climate highlighted by warm dry summers and mild wet winters. Offshore breezes from the Pacific Ocean keep the city comfortable throughout the entire year, and Oxnard averages 354 days of annual sunshine.

Surf’s Up

More than 20 miles of beaches grace Oxnard, and most of the 12 individual beaches are scenic and uncrowded. There is good surfing, and some of the most popular beach destinations are Hollywood Beach, Mandalay Beach, Ormond Beach and Oxnard Shores.

Home Sweet Home

Several housing options are available to Oxnard residents, with architectural styles such as Victorian, Italian, Gothic, Colonial and Spanish Revival. Many neighborhoods are situated along the coastline, harbor areas and downtown district, while much of the city’s newer development is occurring along Highway 101 and other main roadways.

Enrolling Right Along

More than 53,000 students in grades K-12 attend 54 public school campuses in Oxnard, and 1,500 employees work for the Oxnard Union High School District. As for colleges, students have top choices such as Oxnard College and California State University Channel Islands, plus there are seven other colleges that have satellite campuses in Oxnard.

Right on the Money

The economy of Oxnard is flourishing, led by sectors like agriculture, defense, international trade, manufacturing and tourism. Other key industries include energy, finance, technology and transportation, and the city’s two largest employers are St. John’s Regional Medical Center and Oxnard Union High School District.

A vibrant arts and culture environment exists in Oxnard, with attractions like the Carnegie Art Museum, Channel Islands Maritime Museum and Petit Playhouse. The city hosts an annual Oxnard Independent Film Festival and a Channel Islands Tall Ships Festival, and music fans can attend the community’s yearly Oxnard Salsa Festival.

On a Roll

Oxnard residents are lucky to have access to an excellent transportation network that includes major roadways like the Ventura Freeway, Pacific Coast Highway, Highway 232 and California State Route 118. Also within the city is Oxnard Airport, and the rail network includes Union Pacific and Amtrak. For companies that ship cargo by sea, the Port of Hueneme is just south of Oxnard.
