Set among the peaks of Colorado’s Rocky Mountain Front Range, Boulder’s gorgeous locale is a never-ending source of inspiration. Artists receive considerable support from both residents and tourists for their trade and with all the above variables in mind, Boulder is naturally a nurturer and encourager of talent.

An Artist’s Utopia

There are about 15 Boulder galleries, many of which have programs in place to introduce more people to the arts. During the monthly Art Walk, galleries stay open longer and offer special events for visitors. The Downtown Boulder Art Fair held every summer features approximately 150 local and regional artisans. And almost 120 local artists, including Peck Taylor, open their studios to the public in October to demonstrate their talents.

The Boulder Theater

The Boulder Theater hosts everything from opera and movies to disco and rock shows – ever since it first opened as the Curran Opera House in 1906. Operating primarily as a multiuse facility, the theater has dazzled the community by playing concerts, plays and an occasional movie for decades.

And, while we’re on the subject of film, few cities outside of Hollywood can claim as impressive a film history as Boulder. The city has spawned a robust industry of its own, complete with dozens of local filmmakers and an ever-increasing number of film festivals.

Film enthusiasts have a remarkable number of festivals to choose from: the Boulder International Film Festival Series, the Boulder Outdoor Cinema, the Chautauqua Silent Film Series and perhaps the most famous, the Moondance International Film Festival.

Lastly, there’s the Pearl Street Mall. Don’t let the name fool you. Pearl Street Mall offers much more than just shopping. It’s an open-air shopping and dining venue, that also hosts many impromptu musical and entertainment acts.

Boulder has enjoyed a long and distinguished line of art, music and film festivals, celebrating both arts and artists. Despite the city’s size, Boulder’s arts scene is as big and vibrant as the mountains that surround it.
