Named an All-America City in 2016, Lakewood is just west of Denver and has more than 75,000 employed people across all industries. The median home value is $250,000, and major employment sectors include education, finance, government, healthcare, IT/software and manufacturing. Here is some background on 10 major employers that are enjoying success in this thriving city:

Federal Center

With about 7,000 employees, the Federal Center has 90 buildings that house 26 different federal agencies, making the Lakewood complex the largest concentration of federal agencies outside of Washington, DC. Buildings include the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, and the General Services Administration.

Jefferson County R-1 School District

About 10 percent of all K-12 students in Colorado attend a school within the Jefferson County R-1 School District, and the Lakewood region has 3,350 employees. U.S. News & World Report ranks Lakewood High School among the top five schools in the state based on student achievement.

St. Anthony Hospital & Medical Campus

One of only four Level I trauma centers in the state, St. Anthony Hospital was long known as St. Anthony Central Hospital and today provides dozens of medical services to local and regional patients. St. Anthony’s is part of Colorado’s largest health organization – The Centura Health Network.

Terumo BCT

Terumo BCT specializes in blood component and cellular technologies, with the belief that the potential of blood can do even more for patients than it does today. More than 2,300 people work in Lakewood striving to improve blood-work efficiency and patient outcomes.

FirstBank

With $15 billion in assets and 120 locations in Colorado, Arizona and California, more than 1,000 employees of FirstBank are based in Lakewood to provide services such as consumer and commercial lending as well as community investment advice. FirstBank was established in the mid-1960s.

HomeAdvisor

With its motto, “Your Home Improvement Connection,” HomeAdvisor is an online referral service that assists customers looking for professionals to make repairs or upgrades to their homes or businesses. Staffers oversee a huge database of top roofers, plumbers, painters, heating/air technicians and more.

City of Lakewood

The most populous community in Jefferson County is Lakewood, and its municipal government employs about 900 workers. Departments include animal control, environmental health, fire, parks and recreation, police and public works.

The Integer Group

Offering marketing experience to a variety of companies is the specialty of The Integer Group, and the Lakewood branch features more than 500 marketers who assist industries such as automotive aftermarkets, beverage, retail, telecommunications and more.

Developmental Disabilities Resource Center

The nonprofit Developmental Disabilities Resource Center cares for children and adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. The DDRC also provides services that support caregivers, and the Lakewood facility has about 500 employees.

Red Rocks Community College

More than 14,000 students attend Red Rocks Community College, which offers associate degrees in 150 subject areas. Also available to students are certificates in programs like auto technology, computers, health careers, park ranger technology, theater and woodworking.
