Golf in Dickson County, TN Is Way Above Par

The Dickson County club scene is always in full swing with three nice golf courses gracing the community. Here are some points of interest about all three:

Dickson Country Club

This is a private club established long ago in 1927 – two years before The Great Depression. Its success throughout the years can be attributed to an excellent layout, with several tree-lined fairways, challenging greens and bermuda grass tees.

Today there are four sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels, with the longest measuring 6,638 yards from the tips. A signature hole is No. 6 – a par-3, 180-yard test where the narrow fairway is entirely lined by trees while the green is protected by three menacing bunkers.

By the way, Dickson Country Club is also home to an award-winning Main Course Restaurant.

GreyStone Golf Club

PGA tour professional Mark McCumber designed this course that opened in 1998 and has hosted the Tennessee Men's and Women's State Open Championships. The 18-hole beautiful and challenging public venue is a par 72 that has four sets of tees ranging from 4,919 to 6,858 yards.

A signature hole at GreyStone is No. 11, the shortest on the course at 152 yards. But this par 3 has a pond on the left side and a large bunker on the right side of the green. If the pin is positioned on the green's left side, going for it on your tee shot is courageous.

Montgomery Bell Golf Course

This 18-hole course in Burns is situated in Montgomery Bell State Park and has been a popular golfing destination ever since it opened in 1973. Several times Golf Digest has recognized Montgomery Bell as one of America's “Top 100 Public Courses to Play.”

The entire course is heavily wooded and features an abundance of wildlife such as deer, geese and wild turkey. Hole No. 2 is its signature, a 446-yard par 5 that has fairways lined with hardwood trees and four bunkers protecting the green.
