Independent Restaurants in Titusville, FL Serve Up a Variety of Fare

When in Florida‚ be sure to try the seafood. And when in Titusville‚ be sure to try the seafood at Dixie Crossroads.

“The main reason why people dine here is because they know they’re getting the best quality‚ authentic seafood right out of the Atlantic Ocean‚” says Laurilee Thompson‚ co-owner of Dixie Crossroads with her partner‚ Clay Townsend. “We also serve charbroiled steaks‚ prime rib and great chicken dishes‚ but we are mostly known for our wild ocean seafood.”

The lunch and dinner menu items of fish‚ shrimp and lobster have been so popular during the restaurant’s 24-year history that the owners also operate a fresh seafood market in Titusville called The Wild Ocean Market.

“The market allows the public to buy the same quality of seafood that we have here at our restaurant‚” Thompson says. “We don’t sell imported or pond-grown seafood at the market or restaurant‚ which is why Dixie Crossroads has built up such a great reputation over the years.”

Besides the seafood‚ beef and chicken entrees‚ the restaurant is also known for its corn fritters.

“We serve 3 million corn fritters a year‚” Thompson says. “They are a big hit with many of our lunch and dinner customers.”

Dixie Crossroads is one of many successful‚ independently owned eateries in Titusville.

Caffé Chocolat on South Washington Avenue has been voted one of Titusville’s “Favorite Places to Get Dessert” and is locally famous for its fine chocolates‚ ice cream‚ gourmet coffees‚ smoothies‚ panini sandwiches‚ quiche and salads.

Then there is Pumpernickel’s Deli­catessen‚ which is known for its authentic German cuisine and a selection of German wines. Meanwhile‚ Val’s European Deli & Restaurant serves up unusual items such as Ukrainian borscht‚ Polish meat balls‚ marinated herring and other European fare. Finally‚ Driftwoods of Titusville‚ a fine-dining establishment overlooking the Indian River‚ serves steaks‚ seafood‚ chicken‚ pork and pasta.

Another well-known restaurant‚ Kloiber’s Cobbler Eatery in historic downtown Titusville‚ is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2007. Menu items include homemade soups‚ sandwiches‚ meat and vegetarian quiches‚ specialty salads and dinner specials – and‚ of course‚ cobbler.

“As is the case with many independent restaurants that have been in Titusville for many years‚ our name and reputation assures customers that they will always get a good lunch or dinner at Kloiber’s‚” says owner Mike O’Brien. “Plus‚ our name showcases our specialty – fruit cobblers.”

O’Brien estimates that Kloiber’s has sold more than 1 million cobblers during their 20 years in Titusville.

“We sell tons of pasta salads and homemade meatloaf‚ but it’s the cobblers that made our reputation‚” he says. “We offer a hometown feel to our restaurant‚ and our customers include astronauts‚ judges‚ senior citizens‚ city workers and tourists who hear of us. Dining out is popular in Titusville‚ and I enjoy every day I come to work to serve our loyal customers.”
