Iowa City parks and river offer outdoor fun for residents.

If you think Iowa is just flat plains, then think again. Iowa City is full of thick woodlands, towering grasses and tumbling hills, and locals make sure to get outside and enjoy the scenery.
There are more than 40 public parks in Iowa City. Many are equipped with walking and biking trails and picnic sites, including the Waterworks Prairie Park. Several parks also overlook or provide scenic views of the Iowa River, providing a nice backdrop to outdoor activities.
A couple of miles to the north of Iowa City is the Coralville Reservoir, and residents make the most of the short distance and enjoy the area. About 5,000 acres of water are open for all kinds of water sports, from fishing to boating to water skiing.
On land, hiking, biking and cross-country skiing trails await. Also, the Devonian Fossil Gorge is close by, and views of Iowa City’s prehistoric past are sure to wow the history lover.
Iowa City has five golf courses, three of which are 18 holes. The largest is Pleasant Valley Golf Course. The course’s 18 holes are spread over almost 6,500 yards, and it is considered one of the finest public courses in the Iowa city area.
