Carmel is home to a popular trail, as well as golfing greens, parks and recreational programs for all ages.
The Monon Trail is a popular recreation trail that attracts people from around the area to bike, jog and spend time with the family in nature. It is part of the Rails-to-Trails movement, which takes retired railroad tracks and turns them into trails. The trail begins Indianapolis and runs through Carlisle to nearby Westfield.
Parks and Recreation
Monon Trail is an official greenway of the Carmel Parks and Recreation Department. The Parks and Recreation Department is outfitted with wildlife-friendly parks and greenways. The department encourages a day out in one of their parks and greenways with your pet but enforces a short-leash policy. Additionally are outdoor facilities and the Monon Community Center. The 146,000-square-foot community center is located in Central Park and extends a fitness center, indoor aquatics, gymnasium, track, banquet and meeting rooms, and a waterpark to the public.
Here is also where a majority of the recreation programs operate. Adults and seniors can keep active in the adult programs, available to those who are 18 years and older. Activities include women’s golf clinics, cornhole league, men’s basketball, coed volleyball and more.
Teens and tweens have their respective offerings, as well. Carmel residents from the ages of 13-17 can participate in teen intensive classes such as yoga, Turbo Kick and Pilates. Youth have programs offered through the recreation department, such as the junior naturalist wildlife exploration activity.
There are also programs outside of the recreation department. Carmel Dad’s Club includes football, basketball, cheerleading and other sport opportunities, and there are the Carmel Swim Club and Carmel United Soccer Club.
Carmel has several public and private golf courses to keep your stroke up to par, and a number of these courses have been crafted by world-renown designers such as Pete Dye.
