By Livability on November 17, 2023

Missouri is known as the Show Me State, and it does, in fact, have a lot to show — and tell. Known for cities such as St. LouisKansas CityBransonSpringfield, and its capital, Jefferson City, Missouri is known as the birthplace of Kansas City jazz, the St. Louis blues and ragtime. The well-known Kansas City-style barbecue and many of the cities’ major sports teams also gives it some notoriety.

The economy is diverse here, with major industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, health care, real estate and government. The state has a graduated income tax, which is appealing for many and makes living here more affordable than in cities of similar size.

The Ozarks, Missouri and Mississippi rivers all add to the recreational opportunities in this state of 6.2 million people, including boating, hiking, zip lining, fishing, camping and more. Riverboat history, Mark Twain, Harry S. Truman, toasted ravioli, Anheuser-Busch and the Gateway Arch are part of Missouri’s distinctive history and flourishing present. Here’s a look at some of the best places to live in Missouri.

Branson is a best city in Missouri.

Branson has certainly made a name for itself with its entertainment scene, including live music shows and theaters along the strip. But the town of 13,000 — known as the Live Entertainment Capital of the World — is also noted for its picturesque location in the Ozarks in southwestern Missouri. Branson might have a small population, but it offers the amenities of a much larger city. The schools are well-funded, there’s a reasonable cost of living and you’ll never lack entertainment, including the outdoor kind with fishing and boating (on three lakes), canoeing, camping and golf! And, if you’ve got a four-legged friend, Branson is known for being particularly pet-friendly.

What makes Branson a good destination for tourism?

Branson boasts more than 50 theaters with some 60,000 theater seats, so it’s no surprise that it’s such a tourist destination, not to mention its location within a day’s drive of one-third of America’s population. Besides live entertainment, attractions include Dolly Parton’s Stampede, Silver Dollar City and the Titanic Museum Attraction. Every brand-name store can be found in Branson, which is why the city has been named the second-largest outlet shopping destination in the United States.
