Located in central North Carolina, the Uwharrie National Forest combines the scenic beauty of nature with fun recreational activities. Containing one of the oldest mountains in the United States, the forest is a favorite for hunters, hikers, and fishermen. Adventurous visitors enjoy the off-road vehicle and mountain bike trails scattered throughout the forest.

Camping enthusiasts can take advantage of the forest’s many camping areas, with a variety of options ranging from full-feature to primitive accommodations. Picnic areas and boat ramps are also available for visitor use in this popular national forest.

During winter months, Uwharrie National Forest is a great spot for catching a glimpse of bald eagles. Badin Lake and Tillery Lake, both located inside the forest, attract a large amount of these eagles every year from December through February. Visitors are encouraged to bring their binoculars to get a look at these fascinating animals.
