Bear Trail Golf Club at Southwest Plantation is way above par in design and beauty.

This 18-hole, par-72 championship course in Maple Hill is just south of Jacksonville and only minutes from the beach and coastal communities. The 6,848-yard venue is semi-private and open to both members and visitors, with members always getting preferences on tee times. The surrounding Southwest Plantation property features 500 home sites accented by walking trails, woodland areas and protected marshes.

For golfers, Bear Trail offers five par-5 holes and five par-3s, and the most difficult hole is the 15th that measures 595 yards from the back tees. Mondays are Ladies Days and Tuesdays are Senior Days, and the course hosts numerous fundraising events each year for charities, high school teams, military squadrons and others.

The golf course is equipped with a pro shop, driving range and putting green, and members have access to a large clubhouse and outdoor pool. A series of handmade wooden bridges enhances the charm of the course, with lush greens and the natural wetlands adding to the scenery.

Bear Trail Golf Club opened in 2007 and is ideal for beginners and novice golfers, yet challenging enough for better players. Course officials recommend that visitors book tee times in advance, especially in the warm-weather months.
