The barbecue capital of the world offers up its best each fall at the Barbecue Festival. Lexington, legendary for its mastery of the slow-cooked meat, celebrates its claim to fame every October with “barbecue month.” The month features an array of events such as the Tour de Pig, a cycling race that benefits the Mental Health Association in Davidson County, as well as a 5-K Hawg run and the Hawg Shoot Air Rifle Tournament. These events usher in the grand finale--the Barbecue Festival. The famous festival is a day-long affair that attracts more than 150,000 barbecue fans every year. The big draw, besides the barbecue, is the over 400 booths that line Main Street and sell everything from crafts to food. There's also live music and artist competitions, and three booths where guests can taste some of Lexington's world-famous barbecue.
