Take the family for a walk on the wild side at Adirondack Animal Land, the largest zoo in upstate New York. Located in Gloversville, nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains, this privately owned animal park is open every day from late May through Labor Day.
Adirondack Animal Land cares for more than 500 animals on 80 acres of farmland, from lumbering tortoises and hopping kangaroos to albino deer and colorful macaws. It’s a fun-filled afternoon with plenty of chances to get up close and personal with a giraffe, pet a baby goat or even hand feed a spider monkey.
Pack a lunch or buy a hot dog at the snack bar and spend the day strolling along the paved paths through the park. Say hello to ostriches, lemurs and llamas, or mosey on down to the 1800’s Western Town replica to peek into the old jail or mine for gems. At the deer park, pick up a cupful of treats and chummy up with some new four-legged friends. There’s even a pond for feeding ducks and an area where the little ones can take a pony ride.
Be sure not to miss the African Safari Ride. This guided wagon trip rolls through 45 acres of open field, where exotic animals such as camels, zebras and emus roam free. With an experienced and wisecracking tour guide at the wheel and tons of curious animals all around, it’s both informative and highly entertaining.
