Oregon

The Pacific Ocean lines the beautiful western coastline of Oregon, while the Columbia River forms much of the state’s northern border, and the Snake River makes up most of its eastern boundary. As a result, the Beaver State features a diverse economy robust in agriculture, fishing, forestry, manufacturing, technology and tourism. The following are brief descriptions of the 10 major employers in the state:

Nike

The manufacturing and marketing of athletic footwear, apparel and equipment is the mission at Nike, headquartered near Beaverton in the Portland metro area. The company’s revenue is about $25 billion annually.

Sylvan Learning Center-Bend

Founded in Portland in 1979, Sylvan Learning Center has about 5,000 employees working out of its Bend office. The company offers personalized tutorial instruction in reading, writing and math to primary and secondary education students.

ICS Blount

Providing tools and equipment for cutting and drilling hard materials is the focus at ICS Blount, located in Portland to serve the construction industry. Its main product line includes diamond chain saw blades and pipe-cutting tools.

Ohana Party Rentals

More than 6,000 employees work for Ohana Party Rentals, based in Portland to provide equipment used for weddings, birthdays, corporate events and big parties. Every rental period from the company is 72 hours.

Oregon State University

In Corvallis is Oregon State University, which has more than 200 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs. The sports teams are the Beavers, and they compete in the NCAA’s Pac-12 Conference.

Intel

One of the world’s largest semiconductor chip makers is Intel, where 5,000 employees in Hillsboro supply processors for computer systems such as Apple, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Samsung.

Liberty Tax Service

More than 4,300 Liberty Tax Service offices operate in the U.S. and Canada, including a Salem location that oversees about 4,000 employees. The company is recognized as a leader in personal income tax-based services.

Hewlett-Packard

The 4,000 employees at Hewlett-Packard in Corvallis develop hardware and software components for individuals as well as major customers in the government, health and education sectors.

Justice Department Support Enforcement

Monitoring child support cases, Justice Department Support Enforcement in Roseburg has 4,000 employees who process about $1 million a day in court-ordered medical and child support payments.

Kaiser Permanente Brookside

With more than 4,000 employees in Clackamas is Kaiser Permanente Brookside, which specializes in residential mental health treatment as well as residential addiction medicine treatment.
