1. You Can Explore Andy’s Mind

As the largest U.S. museum dedicated to a single artist, the Andy Warhol Museum sits on Pittsburgh’s North Shore near where Warhol was born and raised. Among the works on display are 900 paintings, 100 sculptures, and 200 of Warhol’s Screen Tests videos, plus several drawings by his mother, Julia Warhola.

2. You Can Spot a Bald Eagle

The north side of Pittsburgh houses the National Aviary, America’s largest aviary and the only one accorded “national” status by the U.S. Congress. The spacious facility has 500 birds representing 150 species from around the world, and visitors can interact with several of the free-flying birds – including hand-feeding some of them.

The Pittsburgh Brewery Tour transports passengers by private bus to the city’s two most well-known breweries – Church Brew Works and Penn Brewery. Both long-time breweries have won numerous national awards, and patrons receive behind-the-scene tours along with beer samples and information on other popular sites in Pittsburgh.

Open 24 hours a day and seven days a week, Rivers Casino on Pittsburgh’s North Shore is next to Heinz Field and features 3,000 slot machines and 100 gaming tables. The casino has five restaurants, four bars and live entertainment shows every Thursday through Sunday. A 1,000-seat outdoor amphitheater accommodates concerts during the summer months.

The centerpiece of the University of Pittsburgh’s main campus is the Cathedral of Learning, a 42-story Late Gothic Revival structure that is the second-tallest university building in the world. The cathedral, in the city’s Oakland neighborhood, contains 2,000 rooms along with a studio theater, food court and a four-story event hall, and visitors are always welcome.

10. See a Show, Any Show

In the city’s cultural district, the 2,800-seat Benedum Center for the Performing Arts welcomes a number of arts-based organizations that include Pittsburgh Dance Council, CD Live, Pittsburgh International Children’s Theater and First Night Pittsburgh. Also staging performances at the Benedum Center are ensembles such as Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Pittsburgh Opera, and the venue is available for rental to community groups.
