With more than six golf courses and access to thousands of acres of state parks, Anderson is home to more than just weekend warriors. These outdoor adventurers incorporate activity into their daily life. Children have their choice of activities in Anderson, including the Little League program through the YMCA and the incredibly large Kid Venture Playground. Created through the volunteer organization Community Partners at Play, Kid Venture covers an entire acre of land and was designed from ideas taken from local children. For bigger kids, the growing sport of disc golf is represented in Anderson, with a course located at Darwin Wright Park. Nestled on the shores of Lake Hartwell, the park features a boat ramp and dock, handicap-accessible fishing pier and a sandy beach for some fun in the sun. Avid cyclists can trek through the trails of Sadlers Creek State Recreation Area, which is located on a peninsula jutting out onto Lake Hartwell and allows for boating, fishing and picnicking as well. Those who love to step into some jogging shoes and go for a run can join up with the Anderson Roadrunners, who get together for late night runs around Anderson’s rolling hills. And residents are just a stone’s throw from mountains and rivers that make up South Carolina State Parks, which are currently celebrating their 75th anniversary. With that comes the opportunity to experience a variety of special events or get your children involved in the Junior Ranger program. And if you just can’t seem to take a break from work – even when surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery around – several of the state parks have gone wireless. Going high tech never looked so good.
