Health-care facilities throughout Campbell County are meeting the community’s needs with cutting-edge technologies and multimillion dollar expansion and improvements projects.

Campbell County Memorial Hospital is leading the way with a completed $68 million expansion project that includes a Helipad, a covered 294-space parking structure, and a larger surgical unit that features private pre-op rooms.

“Our expansion project has really made having surgery a more comfortable and private experience for patients and families, with our new lobby and individual outpatient pre-op rooms,” says Andy Fitzgerald, hospital CEO.

Additional construction is currently underway at CCMH, including expansion to the radiology department and a cardiac-cath lab with two staff cardiologists.

Senior Living for the 21st Century

The hospital is now building a $30 million facility for long-term and transitional care residents and short-term rehabilitation patients that includes 152 private rooms and eight double-occupancy rooms. The project, which is expected to be completed in spring 2015, includes a memory care division. Features of this alternative to a traditional nursing home include a “town center” common area and separate “neighborhoods” of about 30 residents in each section with their own individual dining, recreation and sitting areas.

“We have a responsibility to the folks who built our community and made it a great place to live,” Fitzgerald says. “This new facility will give our seniors, and others who need long term care, a place to live that is beautiful, safe, and cares for their needs with dignity and respect.”

Karen Clarke, CCMH manager of community relations, says other features that set this facility apart from the existing Pioneer Manor nursing home that was built in the 1960s include an adult daycare program and expanded rehabilitation care with a large gym.
